DNA Testing Kit: DNA Sample Collection GuideAll our home DNA tests are performed using our DNA testing kit. After we confirm your order, you will receive in around two business days your DNA test kit which will include all you need to do the sample collection as well as comprehensive instructions. The collection of the DNA sample is done using oral swab and is relatively pain free and very easy to do. Please review these visual instructions below which provide a step-by-step explanation on how to use our DNA testing kit to collect your DNA samples. This process will have to be repeated for every person participating in the test.
Step One: (view image) Inside the DNA test kit you will find a number of colored envelopes. Each envelope is to be used for one person. Normally the kit contains enough swabs for testing 3 people (unless additional persons are being tested). Inside the kit you will also find the submission forms you need to fill in and send back. Step Two: (view image) On the inside of each of the colored envelope there is a pair of color coded swabs. These swabs should be of the same color as the color of the envelope in which they are packed. We strongly recommend to avoid any food or drink at least half an hour before the oral swab samples are taken. Step Three: (view image) Using block capitals if possible, proceed to fill out the details requested on the label outside of the envelope ensuring that all the correct information is filled in clearly. Also proceed to fill in the submission form in the same manner. PLEASE ENSURE THE INFORMATION IS CLEAR AND LEGIBLE. Step Four: (view image) Open the sterile packaging containing the swabs and remove the swabs paying attention NOT to touch the cotton part of the swab to avoid contamination. Each envelope should contain two swabs which are to be used for each person tested. Step Five: (view image) Using the cotton end of the swab, you need to rub firmly the swab along the inside of your cheek, behind the lips and under the tongue. You should perform this for 10 seconds per person. It is important to remember that you are collecting cheek cells and not just saliva, so make sure to stroke right against the inside of the cheek. Repeat this process with both swabs per person. Step Six: (view image) You must allow the swab to dry for a MINIMUM of one hour before putting the oral swab back in the envelope. The swab must be placed in a position where the cotton end is not touching anything - for example you can put the swab cotton end up in a short cup. When you are sure the swab is dry, place the correct swabs back in the correct color coded envelope. At NO time during the process can you touch the cotton end of the swab, even to check if it is dry. Step Seven: (view image) Once the above is completed, include the color coded envelopes together with the submission form into the self addressed envelope you will find in the DNA kit. You need to send this back to easyDNA for processing. It is your choice how you want to send the samples back to us.
