Sequencing

Genetic sequencing is a way of determining the precise structure of DNA in all its intricacies. DNA is made up of base pairs. There are four bases on the human DNA molecules- adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine. Adenine can only pair with thymine and guanine with cytosine. Pairing depends on the chemistry between the bonding. The human genome is made up of some 3 billion base pairs. The research within this field is of immense advantage since it helps scientists understand the laws of heredity. DNA sequencing is far more complex than DNA profiling though the two are related. Thanks to research within the field, sequencing will enable many genetic diseases to be understood; including Alzheimer’s and breast cancer. Research within this field will go on for quite some time into the future.
