Why do a Paternity Test?
A Paternity Test can help you discover whether or not you (or someone else) is the father of a child. If you are facing the possibility of child support payments, or other legal entanglements because you have been named as a potential father, a DNA paternity test can prove or disprove your obligation to that child. Likewise, if you want to prove you are a natural parent for custody purposes, legal DNA testing will provide you with evidence that will stand up in a court of law. Because paternity tests have become less expensive over the few years, you can even use them to establish whether a child was conceived through infidelity, or there was a mix-up at the hospital.
DNA Paternity Testing has become the legal standard for establishing fatherhood and the obligations that come along with it. In the past, blood tests were used because they could rule out paternity if a person had an incompatible blood type with the child, but there was still a lot of uncertainty when two potential fathers had the same kind of blood. DNA paternity tests take the doubt away because they are so accurate that they make it impossible for one person to be a child’s father if the child does not have a consistent DNA profile.
