About X chromosome testing
Due to New York State Department of Health regulations, we cannot offer any peace of mind paternity or relationship tests to New York residents. However, we can offer legal paternity and relationship tests in New York. Contact us or click here for more information.
The X chromosome test is ideal to confirm the genetic relationship between two or more females. The test is one of the various sibling testing services we offer and is normally done between females who wish to know whether or not they have the same biological father.
During this analysis we extract the X chromosome profile from each sample. We then compare the profiles from different people. A perfect match between the X chromosome profiles indicates that the females tested have the same father. The genetic code of any female is made up of 1 pair of XX chromosomes in every cell and 22 pairs of chromosomes known as autosomes. From each XX chromosome pair, a female inherited one X chromosome from her mother and the other from her father.
Real client testimonial:
“The service was impeccable! I had an X chromosome test with a potential half sister, the test results came back over a week before they were due. The customer service is great too. I have used this company twice. Friends and family have too, we all share the same positive experience. Great company!” UK, 11th October 2016.
Order your test
Our X chromosome test includes the testing of 2 females and the analysis of DNA samples from two females. Results will be emailed in 14-21 business days. We do not offer an express turnaround time service for this DNA test. The cost of the X chromosome test is $399. Once your order payment has been securely processed on our website, you will receive a payment confirmation email. We will then promptly dispatch your kit to the address you have chosen. The DNA testing kit includes everything you need to collect, package, and send your DNA samples to our laboratories for processing.
Note: We can only offer this test between females who have different biological mothers. If the females have the same birth mother, we can only offer this test if the mother’s DNA sample is included.
The X chromosome test can be used between paternal grandmother and granddaughter as they must share one X chromosome. This shared X chromosome is the one that the grandmother passed to her son and he, in turn, passed to his daughter. We only need DNA samples of the paternal grandmother and granddaughter for this test. We require no other samples in this particular case.
To better familiarize yourself with the DNA sample collection process, visit our sample collection page.
If you are 2 males who wish to discover if you share the same father, we recommend a Y chromosome test.
X Chromosome Information
The X-chromosome is one of the two chromosomes which determine sex in most mammals including humans. Females have DNA that is characterized by two X-chromosomes, whilst males have only one of these X-chromosomes paired with a Y-chromosome. In the human cell, the Y-chromosome is only around 2% of its cell genetic material. The X-chromosome contains more genetic information and constitutes approximately 5% of the DNA in a cell.
If siblings taking part in the same test are of mixed gender (ie. brothers and sisters need to compare their DNA against each other), then we suggest a full siblings DNA test. This test will confirm whether siblings tested are full siblings, half siblings or not siblings at all. The test offers accurate results depending on the amount of DNA shared between the test participants.
